Unconditional Love and Forgiveness in ‘Saving KC’: A Discussion with Buzz Desjarlais

Books That Make You Take Control of Your Life

We all make choices across our lives, of course, and since no one gets out alive, we can at least decide how our own stories should end.

Grinelle “Buzz” Desjarlais is the author of the Historical Fiction novel Saving KC, which offers a deep exploration of addiction, and the connections we can find in unexpected places.

Saving KC is set against the backdrop of post-Vietnam America. In it, a POW comes home to find everything has changed. Soon, he discovers a songstress who is in the midst of her own war. The story explores addiction, recovery, and the timeless theme of redemption.

Buzz was born on the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation in Montana, also known as the Chippewa Cree Reservation. He helped found the non-profit Native Project, which serves as an outpatient drug and alcohol treatment center for indigenous youth. Today, he is a business owner, father and grandfather who helps guide others to begin their own journey of recovery.
