Kelly O’Hearn on the Soul Behind Arcanum

Tell me about your book from your point of view .

My book series Arcanum is something that’s really personal to me because I channeled it through the lens of my soul using my tarot cards.

What was the most challenging part of writing your book?

For me, the most challenging part of writing a book is just the writing. I have never aspired to be an author, but since this story came through me, not from me, I do find that as long as I’m disciplined enough just to sit down in front of my computer and start, then it flows. But the hardest part is the starting.

What type of reader will enjoy your book?

I would say the book is geared toward readers that are primarily women, mostly in their mid 30s and up. But I am finding that younger readers, younger women in their twenties, are really enjoying this book. But the heroine, the protagonist, it’s her fortieth birthday at the start of the series. So, when you have lived until that point in life with children and career and a period of self-reflection, you will resonate more with it.

Can you tell me three fun facts about the main characters of your book?

Some fun facts about the main characters. In my book there are five main characters, and:

  1. Our heroine, Sarah, is an incredibly accomplished, intelligent woman. She’s a CEO, a badass in the boardroom, and she is just a master at fragrance. But at the same time, what’s really fun with her is that she has no idea who she is. She doesn’t remember at all the essence of herself. And that’s the primary focus of Arcanum—is for her to remember that.

  2. Her soulmate in the book is Harry. And Harry is worldly and international. Very successful man. Decent heart, good guy, just a really, really likable character.

  3. My favorite character is Max. Max is Sarah’s best friend, and he is someone who is just a free spirit. He really just loves life, loves pleasure, doesn’t judge himself for anything, really lives from a place of total freedom. Max is also an incredibly loyal and loving best friend to Sarah.

The other female in the book is Leyla and she’s just the soul that we all wish to be one day. Really evolved, ascended. She is very wise and astute, observant, very content in her own skin, loves the people she loves, and is someone who is of service to help people get out of their own way.

And lastly, we have the villain, because every story needs a good villain. Ken is Sarah’s psychiatrist, but he has less than noble intentions towards Sarah and his patients. His story is a really, really wonderful plot line in the books.

What do you hope will be the everlasting thoughts for readers after finishing your book?

I just want readers to enjoy Arcanum. First and foremost, it’s a fun read. It’s a sexy read. It’s an easy read. It’s intriguing. It will provoke thoughts of — who am I? Do I have past lives? Why am I so drawn to this person? Mostly, I really want readers to love each book so much that when they finish the book, they grab the next one.

What inspired you to write Arcanum: Whispers in the Forest?

I’m a tarot card professional reader by career, so it was so much fun during 2020, when we were all in our homes. to have a project that was creative and just different. And what came of that was what is now Arcanum book one and book two. A subsequent four books will be written for a complete six series set.

What was your favorite experience while writing your book?

My favorite experience while writing my books, of course, is the research, because these are books where the past lives happen all over the world in different timelines and points in human History. I’ve had the distinct pleasure, and I’m so grateful, to go to France to research book two, Whispers in the Forest. And I recently went to Rome because I’m starting book three, and that takes place in Italy. So, it’s been such a joy to be able to do research.

If People Can Only Buy One Book This Month, Why Should It Be Yours?

I would say, especially since we’re entering the summer, the Arcanum series is your perfect companion at the beach, on your couch, in your backyard on a rainy day, on a weekend when you don’t have to go to work, whatever. It’s really engaging. And I don’t say that from a place of ego, it just is. And I’ve read it, you know about 15 times, probably more. And I still enjoy both books. It is best to read as a series, so buy book one and read that, and just have the joy of being able to move immediately into book two. And you’ll be hooked.
